October 27 Update at 8 a.m. | Today, the Government of Alberta is in the legislature and will vote on Bill 2, the Back to School Act (Order Paper), Alberta's proposed legislation to end the provincial wide teacher strike that started on Oct 6, 2025. After a decision has been made on Bill 2, all Superintendents will meet with the Alberta Education to receive specific direction on how the return to work order will be implemented and when schools will reopen. What you can expect from us:
- As soon as we have a return to school date we will announce that through email, website, and on our social media channels.
- We are working on the final details of our plan to transition students back to school. There are still a few specifics that we need to work through and will share information by the end of this week. - Will diploma exams continue for semester 1?
- Will grade 6 and 9 provincial achievement tests (PATs) continue?
- Will the MHPSD school year calendar be adjusted to make up for lost instructional time?

October 17 Update | GOA November Diploma exams update
November diploma examinations are administered for students who are part of a quarter system. MHPSD does not operate on the quarter system (with diploma examinations in November). In MHPSD, all high school students are on the semester system, with diploma examinations in January and June. As the teacher strike continues, we anticipate that the GOA will provide updated direction on January diploma examinations for students in the semester system.
